Conference Realignment

I'm addicted to news stories about the conference realignments happening in the NCAA. Nebraska unofficially to the Big 10, Colorado officially to the Pac 10... The stories just keep coming!

It's official: Pac-10 announces addition of Colorado

More to come, I'm sure!

  1. Now are you following the conference realignments for football, basketball or swimming? :)

I've been watching, but not as much as you are. It seems like this happens every year or so. Schools decide that they can do better in a different conference and move. I'm not sure that it really helps them all that much. What do you think?

  2. My sister's school switched conferences starting for starting her senior year. No longer in the SCAC but will now be in the NCAC (?) which is D3 swimming (and I'm sure other sports as well)

I think it helps sometimes. In the case of the Big 12 breaking up, it gives some schools a better chance of getting money distributions. The Big 12 divides the "profits" based on the number of TV appearances, making it VERY lop-sided.

In the case of Nebraska coming to the Big 10, it now allows the Big 10 to hold a championship football game and determine a REAL champion for the conference.
